final project in forensics

Hey guys,
a while ago i posted the halfway-done picture of this drawing i was working on:

So, it turns out i drew that half of the skull too wide. The ratio of width to height should have been 1:3 and i drew it 2:3... fml. Anywho i had to go back and elongate the whole thing, moved the eyes up, made the nose longer, gave him more of a chin. Well now he looks a little weird. By "he" i mean the person that would conceivably belong to this skull.


The second part of this project was to accurately apply the flesh to the skeletal structure of this skull, on the other half of the face. I used tissue depth averages (literally how fat the skin is in certain parts of the face), gave him both male and caucasian features (in the skeletal structure), and did an artists rendering of a facial reconstruction, like what they do on all those forensic TV shows.

I know his mouth and nose are a little weird, and it's because of the elongation i had to do. In the end i added a bullet wound to the skull (on the skull is an entry wound) and the exit wound coming out the right side. if i had more time i would have cleaned this up a lot more, but i finished it the day it was due. Regardless of what i dont like about it, i'm still really proud of it, and see where i can and will improve.

The chin is the only part thats out of ratio, rest looks lovely :D

Oh that is a nicely reconstructed face from the skull. Something that I could definitely see being used in the field of DNA and stuff (dunno the professional name)

Saw a documentary of a rapist in Mexico whom was caught thanks to an artist reconstructing the victims face from sketching his skull/sculpting it. :D

very good detail around the mouth. impressive.

my only concern is that the jaw bone seems to look a little to blown out to the left, if you know what i mean. its too wide. that and the chin on the right is a little bit disproportunate, but thats about it

i see what you mean. it's weird because i mirrored the skull using a lightboard onto the other half and added the flesh around the skull, then erased the outline. Now that you point it out though, it's a little odd. If i end up going back to it and working around with it i'll definitely look into that :)

yeah man, i spent like 3 months doing the stages of musculature that goes into the face. everything from the skull to the skin and inbetween.

your angle on it is fine, which is good because the fix is going to take less than 10 mins. just thin it out. its very detailed though, love the teeth and jaw junction
