Nah some terrorist will put some bomb down a volcano and blow up the core... if they can get a bomb that powerful lol
the world will end when a nother planet crashes into it

Almost damn near positive.
A hydrogen bomb sent to the core some how would destroy the world, im pretty sure. I think the sun will explode (super-nova) one day and that will be the end of earth. But by the time that happens, im sure we will kno how to live on another planet. The sun isnt exploding any time soon. As soon as the sun starts storing enrgy inside of iron, we are in trouble. 0_o
Unlike most of you, I don't think that people will be that distructive. Chances are the human race will consume every imaginable resource on this planet, and eventually move on to a new one. Then millions, billions, or even trillions of years later, once we're long gone, our sun will collapse probably causing the actual destruction of Earth.
When I die, the world will end. Because I am no longer here to observe it.

That's because religion's hold on the minds of people in the world is fading. A couple hundred years ago, athiests were killed in almost any culture, but now we're becoming rather numerous. People are waking up and realizing that it's ridiculous to believe in any form of super-natural benig(s) or power. Also, many of the people who worship religion today are becoming extremely moderate. The majority of Christians for example, do not actually follow many of the religion's laws and rules, and I have only talked to a few christians who actually believe the Adam and Eve story anymore.Quote:

I'd say it is going pretty fast compared to how long it was strictly followed. The earth will only parish due to the sun exploding. Its 345353343535 billion years humans will have thought of a way to thwart a asteriod or comet or w/e colliding into the Earth.

About 5 billion years from now, the sun will collapse causing a supernova. but we'll all be dead long before the sun swallows the planet. Assuming we're still on this planet, we will be cooked to crisps before the sun reaches venus. so...the life expetancy of the planet is about 5 billion years.Quote:

The life expectancy of a sun is 10 billion years.
Of course that's assuming we don't blow it up first. We will be colonizing mars soon enough, probably within our lifetimes. At that point, who knows what the earth will be worth to us. it may just be a giant trash heap by then, worthy of demolition.
kinda agree with 43's views. Chances are we will screw it up so bad that only the ones that have managed to get off planet will survive. Serious expansion can only realy happen at FTL flight, which no one realy knows if it is possible, I think that's something that if developed, will be outside of our life time.
Of course sub FTL flight is defintaly feasable and big ARK ships are quite possible. I doubt if the current structure of the worlds governments would ever be able to pay for such a craft, but it is technicaly feasable within our life time.
We could send seeds to any number of other star systems, and most will fail (cause we are still no closer to finding systems with inner planets that are similar to earth). The odds are just not that good. But for the extended duration of the human race, currently its the only option.
But as has been stated, the world will end when the sun consumes it in it's death throws.
So lucky for us we have about however many billions of years to find one. And by that time we will either be long gone and have colonized the galaxy, maybe even other galaxies, or we blew ourselves up long before then.
Heh.. in the mean time, we should work on getting along with each other :P and I mean that generally.

Yeah, FTL is a distant dream, although they did get electrons to travel FTL not too long ago. Without it the farthest we can planet hop is mars. After that it's too inhospitable. I think it would be awesome to live on mars though, the snowboarding there would be amazing. I read somewhere that there's a 20 year plan for setting up a small colony on mars.Quote:
