uh... is your pc crap?
theres the answer
cause mine has bad ram, but i can still do them (it has 512)
I've got two ways to fix this. The most obvious is to put more RAM in your machine. The second would be too eliminate all running applications and processes too free up some physical memory.
yeah, but some apps you dont know what they do, so you leave them (when you ctrl alt dlt)
yep low ram turn off background apps..will help a bit n half the stuff runnin in BG aint doin much until u need the prog anyway(except usin ur mem up )
Basically the only thing you REALLY don't want to kill is EXPLORER.EXEQuote:

It's easier if you just restart your computer and begin working with photoshop as soon as it starts. Don't use anything that isn't absolutely necessary.
43...you can end explorer.exe...explorer isn't the whole windows process..there isn't one. Explorer just shows your taskbar and your icons
All you ahve to do is just ctrl+alt+del to bring up task manager, go to run then type explorer.exe
:-D

It's important to keep your computer stable, and can run in multiple instances.
thanks :D
I have only about 5 processes running. Aim, Photoshop, FF, SVCHOST, and explorer.exe
Most proceeses are windows services, which most aren't needed.
i have about 20 SVCHOST
can i shut down all but the biggest?
Up to you.

It could be because he has it set to inches insted of pixels
yea it is possiable, because i have 4gigs of ram, and when i do inches, and i do say 500x500 my comp has trubbles loading
The other possibility is to do with the desktop, which is fixed to 48 meg RAM (I think its 48). If you get your apps closing for no apparent reason or failing to load, some weird errors about not being able to init dll's, etc then it will be because of the dekstop ram allocation.
Apparently there are three areas, one for users, one for the desktop and te other i've kinda forgotten. You can edit your registry to juggle the allocations.
Was the error you got from PS explicitly saying that you dont have enough memory to do whatever operation you were trying to do? can you post the exact text of the error message?
Also i would suggest dumping a list of the processes you have in memory and posting it here, then we can give you some advice. There are a tonne of services that are not windows, put there by software you have installed, which may not be necessary.
KingMe your a genious lol i had it set to inches which made the image size like 30,000 icnhes. Well its all good now guys thanks :)
Or you could just by a new pc. Mine only cost $400 and I run Cs2, Several MSN windows, AIM,Norton antivirus + I never have too close down anything. The only programs I DO have trouble running are most 3d editors, but I think thats my graphics card.
Actually, explorer is the shell. and will respawn by itself, however you don't EVER want to kill your shell during normal system use because it can lead to some serious problems.Quote:

You also don't want to kill most of your SVChost's, they can be important.
Good catch KingMe, I never would have thought of that.
i have so much space and ram i can run the world from my pc... except i can't get this darn antivirus to shutdown :P
most anti virus software programs have two services, one is the anti virus scan engine, the other is a watch dog.
On some computrs, if the anti virus sofware is terminated the watch dog will shut down the computer. on others it will just restart the anti virus software.
If you dont want it running then it may be best to uninstall.
thanks :) it's just it was a good antivirus but since i installed some adobe programs yesterday it wouldn't let me use them (version cue, and GOlive)
