it is?
they just brought out the betas... so i dont think they have...
where you hear this?
I guess Vista sounds cool..dunno what the product is though so cant tell if it matches or not
Vista sounds too spanish/mexican
lmao only if you pronounce it "veestah' because 'vizzstah' sounds fine lol
randy
longhorn was the codename for the new windows OS, now they have chosen another sucky name for it
did you know, microsoft codenames are ALWAYS better than the actual name
Not really, their art program, acryllic codenamed, is the worst name ever.
why dont they name it "Windows"
it is called windows, but they gota have something after it (3.01, 95, 98, 2000, milleniun, XP etc)
its a name, all names sound wierd when you first hear em, in a couple of years people will not be able to imagine it being called something else.
As for sounding foriegn, what about Fedora Redhat????
Ah the new fedora cores. I like RH9 =/
O well.
I dont really give a crap what its called. Just as long as it looks good, runs good, and lets me do what i want with it. 0_0
my friend has been partying almost constantly since they announced the beta for vista. i liked the name longhorn more.
i've actually had a chance to try out longhorn, because that friend got his hands on a test copy. looks like XP (well the version i was trying) with a few more bells and whistles. the colour scheem was dark though, dark gray from what i remember.
blah, dont listen to me, i was probably dreaming.
That one makes perfect sense. RedHat...Fedora...a fedora is a type of hat. Windows...Vista makes sense also... except, you know... the companies based in the US not Spain! I have to agree that the name is terrible to pronounce. Vista is what you'd name accounting software, not an OS. They should have kept with the XP/CE/ME/MCE thing they had going. Windows FU ... perfect.Quote:

I'm just kind of shrugging and laughing at this whole thing. What kind of business decision is it to change the name of an OS from Longhorn to Vista? Looks like they didn't do there research either, or from what I saw about them getting sued over the name change by some Vista Inc or something.
For those not up in the tech news so to speak.
Windows Vista... wtf is that? I liked longhorn a lot more... it seemed my mystical or something.
When is Longhorn Due anyways?
Vista's due December of 06, so said by the magical Wiki man.Quote:

I say neither - Vista sounds incredibly cheesy and Longhorn suggests that it could be used to program tractors and predict how much grain you'll harvest in the fall.
Who cares? Theres a code-name for lots of projects.
Thats like saying, "Oh! I would rather have Photoshop be called, Photoshop Space Monkey, rather than Photoshop CS2!!!"
Although Dark Matter would've been alright, not as professional imo.
Plus Longhorn sounds like a euphemism for a big penis :P
I say they call it "Windows Burrito"
catchy rite?
Hmm i spose those in America think vista as being foriegn sounding, but to me it's just a word that describes the view that you can see. I personaly don't see it as 'foriegn sounding'.
Let's face it, the english language is a bastardised collection of so many different languages.
I think its more of us not actually having any "vistas" per say.
We've got apartment buildings named like Palm Vista or Vista Apartments though.
