Hurricane Katrina

Im personally affected by it. My brother is in the USN (united states navy), and he is a helicopter electrician. He was stationed in Jacksonville, FLA. He was transported to New Orleans. Right now he is trying to fix hlelicopters and going on recue missions. Im not here to make you feel bad, or sorry for me and my family.

Im sharing this so that you will donate. Im hoping everyone here will donate atleast a portion of what they have to the Red Cross, or any other known organization. Dont donate to any unfimliar organization. Please donate, it does affect this whole country.

Thanks for your kind words. I know the money won't come back, thats the idea. And i hope you all do your part. It affects the whole nation. I've heard over 20,000 dead. Thats 10 times more then 9-11. This is about 3 times as bad as the Tsunami in Sri Lanka.

I dont care what anyone says, it affects the WHOLE NATION. It already affected the gas prices. We need to pull together as a nation, and help ou fellow man.

DE. You gotta think of the long term effects. I wasn&#39;t talking about ju8st deaths, i was talking about property loss, wildlife loss, natrual resources loss and much much more. Sorry that i didn&#39;t clarify that.

Its hard to say that Katrina would surpass the Indian Ocean Earthquake in damages and loss. Sri Lanka bore the blunt of the tsunami, over 8 other nations were affect like Indonesia, India, Bangladesh and whatnot. It has also been recorded as the single worst tsunami in history..

But it is hard to compare the consequences. The tsunami, for the most part, affected 2nd to 3rd world nations. So the death toll is exceedingly higher, and although over 60% of the fishing fleet of Sri Lanka was destroyed, the economic losses are minor, seeing as it contributes little to the GDP. I would imagine that coral reefs and many forests were destroyed in the disaster, and farmland could be rendered useless because of the salt deposit from the water. In all, over 1.5 million were directly affected by the tsunami.

Katrina affect a major shipping port city and the northern coastline of the Gulf of Mexico. economically, the disaster could exceed &#036;100 billion and much of the US&#39; energy industry operates in the Gulf Coast, so the economy will be severely affected. Environmentally, the wetland regions are devastated, therefore most of the natural protection from future hurricanes is gone. Animals who have wandered into the flooded city will probably be contaminated from the chemicals from the industrial areas of New Orleans. The city would have turned into a toxic cesspool, because its a bowl shaped city, decomposing bodies and chemicals won&#39;t just wash away into the ocean. Mold will also be an issue once the water has been drained. It won&#39;t be habitable for sometime.

So the US economy, compunded with the debt accumulated from the Iraq Campaign, will take a huge blow from this disaster. But ultimately, it is too hard to tell which disaster was worse.

I&#39;ve donated part of my months &#39;donation&#39; money to Hurricane Katrina (I allot a certain amount of xCell technologies profit per month to donations). I think its absolutly horrible what happened.

Wow this is a great community&#33; If I could I would donate 10 dollars (thats saying something since i got lil money..)..but I&#39;m too young. I&#39;m sure my parents are donating though.

I was watching the news for a bit and its absolutly horrible. I&#39;ts nice to know that they&#39;re still locating people alive though. Donating some money is what I could do to help out.
