Which free forum would you prefer? The main two I'm considering at the moment are InvisionFree and phpBB, but I'm open to other suggestions. The forum will probably be for a small and possibly web design-oriented website.

InvisionFree for sure. It has a lot more flexibility, but it's harder to get skins and stuff uploaded on the free version. PHPBB comes with tons of skins for free, and IPB you have to find skins, copy over the CSS, then upload all of the icons seperately and change the links by hand in the ACP. If I were you I would check out the features of both and Compare and Contrast for myself.

Well I already have Admin experience with both the forums, so skinning won't be a problem. What I'm really worrying about with InvisionFree is that I wouldn't be able to host it on website's server... that, and it wouldn't integrate into the website nearly as well.

From a user's standpoint though, which would somebody looking around my website probably find most appealing?

    USE COLOR!

Don't be boring. Use some color's that makes one's eyes look at your website.

Have a short but good Domain name.

Make sure the site runs fast on all browsers.

    Design to fit 800x600.

Most of all, make sure the content isn't boring.

    I have a new board at http://hxckdesigns.com , and it's IPB 2.1.1

Runs great, you should probably go with IPB.
