    Well firstly I'd get rid of those yellow lines on the background (they also come onto the render which kinda messes with it). I think you should let the brushing show through more.
    I've seen the render before and personally, I wouldn't have changed the colour unless you were making it blend with your brush colour. The blue just doesn't seem to work for me.
    Instead of having a bevel on the border, make a new layer and after selecting all (ctrl+a) go edit then stroke and make a 1 pixel black border.
    Hope something in there helped a bit - check out the signature tutorials on the void and you will get better and be able to move onto bigger and better things ^_^
