Civ 4 problem

So I patch it up to version 1.52 and I start a new game as the Germans, set the map to huge, random 8 other civs, etc etc.. and about 5-10 turns in the game gives me an In-Game 'Fatal Error' and it kicks me out after several seconds. It continues to do this every time, and I haven't been able to play a decent game at all.

I remember there was a big fuss about that patch. I never updated my game and it runs dandy Its hard to tell what exactly is wrong without knowing your comp specs.
