    Default Text Basics

This is just a bit of advice in regards to text, more so text in forum signatures. It is by no means a golden rule, since I am guilty of breaking it on more than one occasion.

Text can be the hardest part when making a forum signature. It will either make or break the sig.

When you are making your signature, ask yourself this question. What is the main focus of your sig? Is it your text, or is it your image you are trying to make?

The answer is not your text. You want people to see your image, and not your name slapped on it in a ridiculous size, and in some crazy font.

Keep to basic fonts if possible, as in default fonts such as Arial, MS Sans Serif and Trebuchet for example. Some fonts that are available online can work, depending on what you are making of course. A good one is called Asenine. Below is an example of it and I included a link for you.

    http://www.dafont.com/search.php?psize=m&q=asenine

I've worked with this font for a while now and find it a well worth addition to anyones collection.

There are some other fonts out there that work well, depending on what you are making of course. However, my advice to people who are new to PS, or struggle with text, is to keep it as simple as you can.

A lot of the work I do, I add my name to it in a basic default font and drop the opacity to
10% or even less. At least that way it’s copyrighted.

These are by no means rules written in stone, but a simple guideline for people who are new to photoshop and are struggling with one of the hardest aspects of it.

    Thanks.
    Prick.

Now ive only jus started with the kind of simple text forum sig technique. And i think its great. But ive seen many great examples of fancy text in forums sigs aswell.

And I can't agree with you more. It's not a golden rule by all means. Look at some of my stuff as examples. It's more a rough guideline to help some who have troubles with text, particularly when they first start out.

    Thanks.

Advice everyone should heard by all means. I actually gave a talk to a group of my classmates in physics the other day about fonts and how the media and advertising companies use it. Also, love the Asenine font! Basic...but different. GJ!
