It's what happens with certain macros because of the perspective...

nah it wasnt a macro either, it was 50mm lens on the a low f stop of 1.8 so thats why the perspective is different.

It's not perspective at all, it's depth of field. This is the amount of the picture that is in focus either side of the focal point. The further you are zoomed in, the larger the aperture (lower number= larger aperture) and the closer you are to your subject the lower the depth of field, ie the less you get in focus.
Other factors come into it as well but they are the main ones.

Actually, iirc, and i think I do, dof is affected only by distance, aperture and sensor-size.
