.9 repeating
bored, so i'm just curious to see what people here think about this. there is a correct answer.
-
It's approximately one. Because it doesn't matter how many nines you have you will always be missing 1. I don't know if that made sense but yea.

no
used the last two pages to roll a joint though
Andrew says:
wow
thats fucking hard core
^^HAHAHA, dm sucks XD

It's 1. Because the amount that's missing is infinitely small, and as infinite is undefined in terms of numbers -> 1!

.333/.999 = 1/3; .666/.999 = 2/3; .999/.999 = 3/3 or 1

Eventually after hit .99999999999 or so....(not sure how many spots) it becomes irrelevant. You can physically only get so small, and that is what eventually matters.

Equals 1. Rick was the only one who provided somewhat of a proof. Which means everything in math
A more rigorous proof by Geometric Series:
Breaking 0.999... down
0.999... = 0.9 + 0.09 + 0.009... //this is an infinite summation
= (9/10) + (9/100) + (9/1000)...
= (9/10) + (9/10)(1/10) + (9/10)(1/100)...
We can see that the common ratio is 1/10
...and the first value is 9/10
Using Geometric Series formula..
0.999... = (9/10) (1 / (10-(1/10)) ) // simplify!
0.999... = (9/10) (1/ (9/10))
0.999... = (9/10) (10/9)
0.999... = 1

:O
Or in simple terms...
.333... =1/3
1/3*3=.333...*3
1=.999.....

i always thought about it this way. if both were angles for lines starting from the same point, eventually one line would move away from the other. they would not reach the same point at infinity.

I agree with Shurai, he invented maths do listen to him.
Without Derick we would be mathless, DAMN YOU DERRICK.
My opinion:
If 0.9999 = 1
Than surely 1 can't equals 1??
Two numbers can not equal the same number?
Thats like saying 1 =1 and 2 = 1. Well not quite.
Ive just having a drunken rant so ill shut it now.
Well later...
I once...
Okay i will now.
