OKay well this is good. It seems you have modest and good sig sizes for starting and it seems you obviously want to learn. lets start with the basics.

WHen you have a dark render 9/10 your gonna wanna use a dark background. It makes it better for easy blending. Just liek fi you have a light render your gonna wanna use a white background. However the last one isn't always right. There are plenty of time when you have a ligth render and us a dark BG because simply, some artists find it easier to work on lights and some find it easier to work on darks.

    Easy enough right?
I think the first thing you shoudl work on is smudging and clipping masks.
Try scatter smudging. Daemon's tuts consist of a lot of smudging so if you need help with msudging look at one of his tuts to see how he does it.

My tuts consist of A LOT of clipping masks. Here's how you make one:
    Create a new layer
paint on it once using a splatter brush or something else (100% opacity)
Then either make a new layer and go Image apply image> or use a render for what you want to fill the splatter with (your choice either one works)
Then while making sure the applie dimage or render is above the splatter layer hit CTRL-ALT-G.

This will create a clipping mask. If you need more help check out my aeon flux tut as that is primarily splatter clipping masks. ALso you can PM me or msn me if u need more help.

On the next sig you make try using 0 filters. none.
Granted it won't be perfect, because some filters are really helpful (displacement, sharpen etc.), however i hope you will learn to make a sig without filters this way, that way later on you can add filters in again and make it perfect.

Thats my request, you can choose whether or not to follow it..It's up to you.

BTw GREAT TEXT on the Ryu hayabusa sig!! it's aweesome.

Thanks for the help guys, especially Papa's suggestion of using no filters. I'm usually a filterwhore, so I think it'll help. I'll post the results !

I'll experiment with clipping masks and more smudging, too.

    edit : no filters

better ? I'm not sure.. It's my first try at this style. Any c&c ?
