    Exclamation .tmp problem

I use an Acer laptop that is prone to freezing....so anyways, I was working on something in Photoshop, and my comp froze when I was saving. I waited for a bit, but it wasn't responding, so I had to pop the battery out. I restarted, went through disk checking, but when the desktop opened, the .psd had vanished and had been replaced by a .tmp.
Now, I've checked several sites, and all of them have said that there is no way you can recover a .psd file from a .tmp file. I need to know if there is any way I can recover the lost file in jpeg/bmp/png format, or any other image format I can open and edit in Photoshop.
I haven't switched off my comp, as a precaution. I really really REALLY need some help here: that painting had over ten hours of work in it.

Only you technologically efficient people out here can help me!!!!
