hehe, : > let sensei tell you. =P

DOOD! sprites have emotions in their pixels ya know!

cynthia . she is the champion of the elite four right? well, abstract explosions arent enough to show how awesome she is. create a story with your effects and background.

the way i see it so far is. she is ready for something. but what exactly? i do not know the abstract in your background shows that she is unaware of what is beyond her sight. questioning the very existence of what is around her O_O.

keep the background. change the purple. something more dark would complement this sprite.

good shit tho. MAKE MORE SPRITES!

There are a heap of Sprite tutorials here, [Link], that can help you along.
There are some in the Void tutorial section, but not alot.

Sprite tags require some different skills to normal tags. The idea is that you are creating a mini scene for a small character. This then means that you are required to use alot more effects to fill the background, rather then letting the "render" fill the majority of the Tag.

Again, I've used the same image that the original poster has used, but my outcomes was very different [x] .
I think what is standing out about yours is that the ground is just way too bright!. You've relied on the lighting to cover the base and it's drawing alot of attention. Cynthia also doesn't seem to look right. Her legs look more like animal legs (wolf?) due to some of the effects.
The background is attractive, but I think that there needs to be something done about the footing.
