Personally I think you over did it with the ripples and topaz. The ripples seem to just hang on top of your render or focal. Lighting could be done better aswell. You have light spots where it should probably be dark and dark spots where it should probably be lighted. There's also a red dot in his mouth you might want to darken. But overall it isnt too bad, you should give whoever is helping you out now a nice big thank you for they are helping you improve.

PS: As for this type of "style" , there are several tutorials out there for using ripples and ocean ripples to achieve these effects. They mostly cover the uses of them for water themed photos or signatures. I know Goodtutorials.com used to have some....

it's very simple after using a new layer step 1 apply image of your tag before you add any more detail this should go at the start of your tag . here's what ya do after applying image with your focal in the bg.
STEP 1: New layer step 1 apply image of your tag before you add any more detail.
STEP 2: FilterSTEP 2 sketch bas relief detail setting 10
    smoothness 5.
STEP 3: NEW layer apply layer Step 3 filter ocean ripple ripple size 10, ripple magnitude 10.
STEP 4: Erase: unwanted ripples that's not around focal.

STEP 5: is just messing with layer Step 5 new adjustment
color balance mess with colors to bring the sharpness out
    then
step6 :new adjustment layer again mess with brightness contrast not to bright

step 7: now then new layer apply image filter step 7
blur gaussian blur set to 0.1. then erase the focal

then rest is up to you thats short tut on how i did it give it a go sry if didn't help i will make a real tut with the out come later after christmas if needed gl all ttyl and tx for cnc my tag .
