    You know the saying:
You cant diss it till you tried it.

And MetalSkin, I think you would really enjoy it=
The quote you used is in it.

Anyone actually watch it? Any of it?

Just got done watching that, and was well worth the time.

Thankyou for opening up my eyes to a whole new perspective.

Something I'd like to say, though, is that people or artists don't always copy off of each other as they seemed to be laying out in front of us in that clip. I would find some coincidental; I mean, great minds think alike, right?

I am glad you watched, and enjoyed it.

And I agree “great minds think alike”.
This happened with the invention of
    the radio and telephone.

But the lack of originality, and blatant copying of each other
is VERY true for the movie, television and advertising industry.
Hollywood has a pitiful lack of originality.
Ever watch such tv, movies, ads? Same crap!
    Notice how every station manages
to have a “different” reality show (“Switching Spouses”).
This is who the makers of that clip were targeting.

And for me... Sometimes the vastness
of possibilities inside a blank canvas,
    frame, page, or layer is
    simply>
    scary.

Everything is copied, everything. The trick, as I have come to understand it, is to copy multiple things in one project. It's that combination that breeds seemingly unique art. you take the simplicity of a pedestrian crossing sign and mix it with the complexity of photography and you have the new style of vector work. That was an important part of that film, the combination of ideas. However, I think the video unintentionally gave the idea that these "copies" were all done intentionally. Although the "cog" ad may have been a pretty direct copy, the white stripes video was more likely just a subconscious connection. When you're creating, usually, you don't make a conscious effort to steal others ideas. But you always use your past experiences to create new material, so it's not at all a stetch to say that the white stripes video was most likely a mix between that freaky block spasm movie and legos.

Overall I think it was a pretty good film. It's not an original idea in the art community by any means though, this topic has been discussed and discussed and discussed at every art/design convention, art showing, gallery, and coffee shop the world over. But i did find some of their ideas on how to change your perspective, useful (although again, not completely original).

For a good book on the same topic try "Creative Sparks" by Jim Krause, it's good stuff. I've recommended it alot, and IllegalX picked up a copy and said he really enjoys it. It's the kind of book you keep on your desk and flip through as needed, not a straight through read.
    Resident father figure.

I will try and find that Jim Krause book,
sounds like i would wnjoy it.
And I know the topic is an old hat,
but its good to know (how) others
    deal with this issue.

And I agree: "copies" are not always done intentionally.
We are all influanced in some way:
Can an idea really come out of a void? (no pun intended)
