I don't know how accurate the graph may be, but I don't need a graph to tell you activity is dropping. I come here everyday and know first hand how slow it's gotten. It's dropped off quite a bit in terms of consistant activity over the past three months or so...

..and guests are not the same thing as members Andrew. Most those 'guests' are actually just bots crawling the site. They're not unique visitors, they're not members registering and staying on the site, so those stats don't mean much in terms of activity.

I haven't read any forum stats since the upgrade, but from what I can see myself, the activity on here has declined a fair bit since the upgrade to cause a bit of concern. Also, the amounts of guests/users per day never was reported accurately with the old software at least. Bots, of any kind, don't count as activity of any sort.

That graph might not be that wrong. I remember a time at the void that when I woke up the list with new content was 100+ and you could log in every few hours and always have 20 new posts to read.
Nowadays you have to be happy if there's a new post at all and when I woke up today not even 10 new posts had been made.
I don't know exactly where it went wrong but it's safe to say the upgrade hasn't helped one bit.

Andrew is correct. shiv96, the Compete graph on that website is not accurate.

I use Compete myself, but it's nowhere near as useful as an actual stats tracker. The usefulness of Compete is more in comparing one site to another or to view trends, but not so much for accurate stats. Either way, though, the graph on the site you linked is wrong. Here's a link to Compete's stats page for the void where you'll see a very different chart: http://siteanalytics.compete.com/gfxvoid.com/ If interested, you can learn how Compete calculates & estimates stats at http://www.compete.com/help/q18

Another third party stats system which can be used for GFXVoid is Quantcast as I have their tracking code running on the site. http://www.quantcast.com/gfxvoid.com

The most accurate stats tracking, IMO, is the script I have running directly on the server for tracking visits & pageviews (external third party network outages, server congestion or other issues do not have an impact on these stats). You can review that data at http://www.gfxvoid.com/stats/ That script has been running on the void since June 20th of 2008. The void has had 798,397 unique visitors and 11,449,656 pages viewed since this stats tracker was installed. On the left side of that page you'll see a list of the past 12 months with page views & unique visitors. These stats seem to show a positive growth trend of maybe 25% since last year, although there are some ups & downs.

None of the stats above have anything to do with site activity in terms of member participation. I have stats on participation as well and will update this thread with that data as soon as I can so everyone will be able to review.

For some odd reason that seems to be the effect upgrading from vB3 to vB4 has on site traffic. My guess is that while vB4 has way more features the additional functionality probably causes more strain on the server. That results in the site possibly being a bit slower. Search engine bots track the speed of sites and this does impact rankings in the search engines. Might be that things are a bit slower which caused the void to decrease in search engine ranking. I'm not positive if that's the case but it's a possibility.

It's the same old story. Sorry to hear about the traffic. The same stuff has been happening since the takeover. Don't mean to bash the site or John. I figured it out the hard way as well, by making my own site. Graphic forums are a dead medium, its all moving towards DA. It's to big to take on. =P
