Default Fire right near my city.

this fire is about 10 miles west of where I live, my whole city smells like a camp fire, last night my whole street was in a cloud of smoke, our sunsets are red, and the moon is red right now. My brother lives closer to it than I do and he had to be evacuated at 6 am yesterday, this thing is at 20,000 acres and 0% containment. On my way into work today it was snowing ash, craziest thing I have seen in a while. Fortunately my brother's house hasn't been affected as far as we know the sherrif at one of the roads near his area said that the fire wasn't heading towards his neighborhood but the winds are not helping here, we had major wind yesterday and today that is making this fire impossible to stop apparently. It looks like a volcano has erupted or something there is a massive smoke cloud in the horizon when I look out my front door for the last 3 days.

Just thought I would say something about this since I live right next to this thing.

I talked to three people last night who lost everything they own, their houses burned down and thier land is destroyed, pretty crazy, it is almost surreal to look at this thing it is getting bigger and the smell is making me nauseous at this point.

I don't think the fire will reach the city, the city is bringing in over a third of the country's fire fighting resources to combat this fire, only problem is that New Mexico has an even larger fire goin on right now too so there is alot of resources being used on that fire, the one in New Mexico is like 7 times bigger than this one, our town is just engulfed in smoke because the wind comes down the mountains into our city, I live right at the base of the mountain too so the smoke just sits there and it is hard to sleep at night, I can't run my air conditioner because it fills my house with smoke and I can't breath and it's fuckin hot also so it sucks right now. it has been like 4 or 5 days with this shit and I am starting to want to get away from the smoke. Thx for the support, I wish I was in the Nederlands right about now.

this is my photo, the other ones were from some news channel, I took 3 photos and used photoshop to merge them into one panoramic view of what it looks like about 20 minutes ago.
This is overlooking where my brother's house is, he is a little worried about his house now, it seems that the fire is moving towards his neighborhood, the fire has doubled in size in the last day or two.

the colors of the sunset were pretty breathtaking. I'd say about 400 - 500 people drove up to the top of the mountain to watch this. This is just the view from one of the stop off points along the road. I live about 4 miles from where this fire is at right here. just on the other side of the mountain from me, luckily there is a large resevoir between the fire and me. so hopefully I won't be affected directly by this.

Yeah i heard it was heading towards the horsetooth reservoir, crazy shit man. My dad owns some property near Larimer but it seems the fire is traveling in the other direction towards FC.

I can't see it from down here. Sometimes I get a slight scent of the smoke, but not much lol. I hope they're able to put this out soon and or it doesn't reach you, but if it's double in size in just a day or so who knows whats gonna happen. Anyway, here's hoping for the best.

just saw this map of what it looks like from the air.

my brother's house is right in the pocket of green that hasn't been burned. they are fighting hard to stop the fire at that line, there is alot of multi million dollar homes about 200 feet from the edge of the fireline that are right next to the horsetooth resevoir, I saw about 4 homes go up in flames at about 7 pm, There were so many people up there watching to see if their homes were going to be next. Very surreal to watch because hundreds of people are right there watching it happen on the other side of the resevoir about 300 feet across.
There were tons of planes dropping slurry on houses to keep them from goin up, but the planes had to refill and refuel in Broomfield so the planes unfortunately could not be quick enough to save a few of the houses there. last I heard there is still 0% containment on this fire and it has doubled in size in a day, also that this fire is now bigger than the size of Fort Collins.

just an update, my brother still has no idea if his area was burned or not, they are not telling people much information about specific houses at this point so around 3,000 people that got evacuated have to wait until this thing finishes to find out if they lost thier homes or not. This video http://youtu.be/xNY5g6k5Ljk is the only one I could find that shows the area where my brother's house is, the white water tower in the video is right above his neiborhood, just at the base of that hill. Like I was saying in my earlier post all of the people that live in those houses were there watching this unfold, it was pretty crazy, right after I took that panoramic picture they closed down that road so no one could go up there to watch, but we can still see the mountain from the city and it is still on fire in some parts, there is still a massive smoke cloud and so far one person has been confirmed dead from this fire. The houses in the top of the video I saw about 3 of those go up in flames when I was there watching it happen, there are now 1,000 ground crew, alot more helicopters and planes going over my house every few hours or so. It has been about a week now and this thing is only at about 10% containment at this point. I appreciate the support and thank you flatty.
also found this video that makes this look like armegeddon or something with dramatic music and cool editing. http://youtu.be/uoGZyii-Kr8

Figured I would post an update on this, some stuff has happened in the last 3 to 4 days that has been like an emotional rollercoaster for everyone in this area.

The fire is still going strong, they estimate it will keep going till mid August. so far about 180 homes have been burned and there is about 30% containment, the resources have doubled since the fire first started.
They are saying it was Lightning that started this fire, the highest flames were 300 feet high in some areas.

My brother was told two days ago that his house was fine and he was let back into his neighborhood, He brought his dogs back and everything was fine, today at about 6pm he got about 6 texts and a voicemail saying new evacuations were given for his neighborhood, my entire city was completely engulfed in thick smoke for about 5 hours this afternoon and the wind was at about 55 miles per hour in the fire area it has changed direction again and is heading back to this area. I drove up with my brother to get his dogs and whatever we could get from his house. When we got near his house they had National Guard stop points at the roads leading up to his neighborhood and had blocked the roads off, when he told them that his dogs were still in the house and we were just going to grab the dogs and leave, they told him that we couldn't go up and that there was no way we could go past them. This was basically telling him that his dogs were going to die. Needless to say this was pretty upsetting, so we drove around the town to a different entrance and there was a stop point there too, we pleaded with them and they agreed to let a few cars go up with police escort and that we had to be in and out quick, luckily we were able to get his dogs and he got a few essentials and we drove his vehicles out, so now the area that was fine a few days ago is back to being on fire and another huge plume of smoke is lingering over our city, The sun was bright red today and visibility was at about 20 feet in front of you due to the thick smoke cloud covering the entire city. The Poudre Canyon is on fire now and this fire is at about 56,000 acres and growing. Its so hot here and windy that this fire is out of control.
