    drop the text. i like the smudge but I think it's not blending with the render.

    Like the colours and your on the right path with smudging.

    To better help you blend your render in, it's always good to use more of your renders colours surrounding it to help this path. Also to use some of the render and lightly smudge along the path of your smudge work hellps greatly to allow it to look more blended.

    Another wicked idea is to "hide" your light source along inside your smudging, allowing some of the light to spill out and onto your smudge work.
