I am using Photoshop CS and I am having a problem I am not sure how to fix. When attempting to use my brushes on a 'New' document all I get is a crosshair.

But if I 'Open' an existing image or document I can 'see' the brush (which is the way its supposed to be). Can someone please explain this to me or help me fix this problem. It was working fine before I had to reinstall everything.

    Thanks!

it could be to do with the size of the brush compared to the size of the document

I tested that possibility by opening 'new' documents in various sizes. I also tried various brushes and I still have the same problem.

I wish it were that simple. It's not the caps.

After messing around with different options I have narrowed down my problem, so maybe this will get me the answer I am looking for.

If I attempt to create a 'New' doc my brushes don't show and my text is so freakin tiny you can't see it.

So I created a New doc using the preset 'default photoshop size' and my brushes and text were the size they should be.
It is only when I am trying to create a New doc using the custom preset that I have this problem. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Aylett, when you open a new document, make sure your resolution is set at 72 pixels/inch. Not saying that is the problem but that sounds like your problem because of the small text that you described.
