If I remember correctly, the photo of her has the same effect of her head fading into a white background.

This great! I honestly thought: "Hey, this is in the wrong section! It's a photo! "

How do you do the shading so well? Do you have a special tool or something, or do you just use your finger or something? I'm not very good at shading. :P

    Awesome job!

ah, ive never seen the pic. either way if it were me i would have made the artistic choice not to replicate that, seeing as it is a drawing :P thats just me though i suppose lol

the necklace is fabulous. it definately weighs the picture down a bit though. i think you would need something on the top half to balance it out.
i cant really critique the technique since i have little experience in that area, but as far as i can tell you have done wonderfully
Thank you, I've been feeling the same thing about realism, 'til I started to really learn about it, and now I just try to get better at it ^^ as VoodooGypsy said, "the photo of her has the same effect of her head fading into a white background" ... and the original drawing is brighter in general, so it's not really fair to comment this lousy scan imo.

Maybe that's why, and it was a very long time ago I was totally active at gfx, maybe you didn't post much then either. Thank you alot mate, I've got a bunch of new pieces I'm cleaning up that I'll post when I get hold of a bigger scanner, 'cause these drawings are bigger

Haha thanks, that's about the best comment you can get when you're drawing portraits ^^
I use cottonpads and a kind of pen that smudges the lines, I'll check the name up for you /edit: they're named blending stumps or "tortillions" . Other than that it's just HB-pencils and erasers

    cheers!
