Thought this deserved its own topic.
Well, apart from the mayan theory, there is a scientific explanation. Around 2 million years ago, the ice age started. It supposedly finished 12000 years ago. Now, during the 2 million years of ice age, there were inter-glacial periods. These periods lasted 12000 years.
Do the math. Im not saying a load of ice is gona sweep over the world over night, but it is going to happen, maybe not in our lifetime, but somewhere in teh next 100 years.
