    Default Creating 3D textures

this is the basic way of creating a 3D look on textures. this could be used from walls, tiles or anything like that. and there are plenty of variations on what im doing here, im just pointing u in the right direction

first of all, create a basic shape, or whatever u want to texture.

now, using the texture fillters. give it a few textures. i put in 2 or 3 textures here, its depends on what u want to texture tbh.

copy the layer, then go into the channels tab and create an alpha layer and paste the layer into that. you'll notice that its black and white. some of u may know that when creating sprays white represents visible objects, and black invisible objects. well in this it represents high and low, white being high and black being low.
leave it alone for now, but if u dont get a desirable effect at the end, feel free to come back and edit this. i suggest using the curves tool to make the whites whiter, and the blacks blacker
TIP: make sure the image in the alpha layer is in the exact same place as the image in the normal layer. the easiest way to do this is to select the image in the normal layer when pasteing..

now go to the lighting effects menu: fillters, renders, lighting effects....
the first and most important thing u need to do is change the texture channel to alpha1, and maybe the height. then its pretty much up to u, depending on the material your trying to make

u should now get something like this

    some replies would be nice
