Can someone please move this if it doesn't seem to be in the right place. (Also, I don't know if this tutorial has already been done, so if someone has already written this, can you delete this and my apologies to someone who wrote this before I did). I thought it goes in here because it adds an effect to a photo (hence a photo effect! :P lol ).
And thanks to conspired for showing me how he did something like this.

So here goes my 2nd tutorial *clap**clap*:
Ok so if you want to have a square pattern effect (like in my signature) then you came to the right tutorial!

    1. File > New..., Start with a new 6px*6px document (yes I know small).

    2. Click on the icon (the magnification tool)

    3. Keep clicking into the middle of the small image until you zoom all the way.

    4. Now click on the icon (the Pencil Tool) and on the left and bottom sides, and make pencil marks every other pixel, so it should look like:

    5. Then click on the icon (Rectangular Marquee Tool) and select the whole image, then go to Edit > Define Pattern

    6. Then open the document you want to add the square effect to and go to Edit > Fill. Select Pattern in the Contents dropbox and use 30%-50% opacity. Click Ok.
    Settings should look like:

    7. Now lower the opacity on the layer to 5%-20% and it should look something like:

Except the boxes shouldn't be that big, that image I used 10px*10px, and of course no one used my same sig :P .

    Hope this helps!

    Derek

It adds a more "tech-like" effect to the image. Usually a soft transparent top layer fills in the gap to a missing part of an image.

the easy way to get a result like this is to download a set of abstract brushes, there is almost always grid lines in it, anyway nice tut
