This isn't really from MY job, but it is a stupid people story:
My dad's renovating our local drug store; replacing some tile, doing some painting, stuff like that.
One day, he's behind a counter with a paint roller in his hand, he's painting the counter. This guy comes up, leans up on the counter, and goes "Whatcha doing?"
There's a paint roller IN HIS HAND. He's like "I'm painting." The guy goes "Whatcha painting?"
He's ROLLING THE PAINT ONTO THE COUNTER. He's like "This counter."
-.-
People are stupid.

I've been stood behind someone in poundland ( yes i know it's sad i was buying a hefty bag of sweets ) ,,, and they said to the guy that works there , how much is this?
-
"Can I have a value meal with out the fries and the drink?"
I hear that when I was standing inline behind this lady... Lol  What a dumb ass.

I was at some restaurant and over heard a costomer ordering something from the counter......
Staff Guy - Can i help you ?
Customer - Yeh, i'd like a hot chocolate fudge cake
Staff Guy - Okay, now, would you like it hot or cold ?
I was like, wtf ?
Then the customer towered over the staff guy...
Customer - You tryin to be funny ?

I can't think of any stupid things a clients has said, but I've got a whole list of stuipd things clients have done.
I'm a graphic artist at a sign manufacturing business. We make all those light up signs you see in front of businesses. For this story to have full effect you have to know that I have to recreate a lot of logos and artwork from business cards that people have faxed over, or they'll give me a web address and i'm supposed to find the logo and recreate so we can put it on a 4ft tall sign. So it's a rare and joyous occasion when I get to work directly with another graphic artist, at least they understand scaling images and raster vs. vector, right?! One day I was designing a 4ft x 6ft Sign and the client had a specific image their graphic artist had done, to be placed on the sign. It was a lighthouse next to a city scape, all raster. I get and email from the artist with the file attached, he sent it over and it's 6inches wide by 1.2 inches tall... okay maybe he sent the wrong file, this must be the one he printed off to show the boss. So I call him up and the conversation goes like this...
"hey John, It's Adam over at *** Signs."
"oh hi, how's everything coming with the sign."
"good good. Except I think you must have sent me the wrong file. This ones only 6inches wide at 72dpi."
"oh okay, my fault. I'll send the right one over to you."
**click**
I pick up my email and it's the same file...
"John, it's Adam again. I still have that same file here. It's only 6 inches."
"Oh, well that's the right file i think, let me check. *mouse clicking* Yeah that's it 6 inches at 72 dpi."
"you know that this is for a sign right?"
"yeah, why?"
"well, the sign's 6 ft wide."
"right...so what's the problem."
"... *stupified*...ummm okay john, let me call you back."
"okay, seeya."
**click**
I've come to expect that sort of thing from a client, but this guy is a hired professional!!!! I had to scale it and then repaint most of it by hand. Some days you could just strangle someone with a phone cord...
Another big thing is that the clients always want the font to be bigger...I'm working with a confined space here, they can only be so big. For some reason, no matter how many times I explain it they just don't get it...where do they think all this extra space is going to come from?
Oh oh oh oh, here's the absolute most pain in the ass one. We use a plotter to cut our vinyl (signs are not painted, they use sticky vinyl) so when we get artwork from a customer we always ask that they use Illustrator or a pdf file. At least once a week I get a file from a company where someone has taken a jpg (raster) and put it into an illustrator file (vector) thinking that's going to work... IT'S STILL A GOD DAMNED RASTER IMAGE YOU MOTHER!%$#%@# @#$%^ &$%& WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO FOOL HERE!!!! And you'd be amazed at the companies that try to pull that crap. Not little mom and pop stores, no no no I'm talking about major international franchises. It's insane, you have an art department, USE IT!
