Well these topics have been covered in the SOTW forum, but since we only have one form of SOTW it limits other ideas of competitions.

The official competition has died down, and was made for memebers who enjoy bigger pieces of artwork or use different programs than PS to take part in it. Which is a great idea but only a limited amount of members can join.

The battlegrounds forum has also died down. The original idea of someone challenging another on a site like this or even most forums don't last that long.

Our site presents a lot of beginners who aren't willing to do this or don't know anyone that could compet near the same level which inhibits them not to. This has also been troubles on other forums. Some create other SOTW for novice, intermediate, and pros. But most sites that do this have their whole site geared for rating their members to determine which SOTW or competitions they can join.

I don't like the idea of rating that much but in that fact it would be put to good use.

Anyway I'll try with what I can do to see if I can up this part of this site and get more people interested in making artpieces to go up against each other than just making sigs that you have others look at once or twice and never look at it again.

I like the idea of members being able to change the standards of a forum,
but being in a mods position would have made it easier.
You can do that by complaining. The process of it doesn't take as long as you think. AOTW was up and running a day after the idea was introduced. It wasn't done by discussing within the staff, it was done by a public poll. Something anyone could do.

Most forums that have Beginner, Intermediate, Pro SOTWs have many active members of all skill levels. Here it would be pretty unbalanced. The forum is already very sigcentric, I don't think the worry of limited competition is for sigs, but for those who do everything other than just sigs.

<_< that's just one day shorter than the SOTW :P. But sure, a few did comment that the due date was a little soon.

It's just I've noticed that the SOTW doesn't get really any submittions the last 3 days or so. So the one's who have submitted their work just wait for the voting to start.

Yes that's whay I didn't even consider rating to be any good for this site. Which I don't find a bad thing at all.

Well the only reason I'm not really planning on presenting this to the discussion thread would be for what I'm going to try and do doesn't really need that admin or mods. It would be helpful but not required.

Basically battlegrounds is an area that members can set up whatever type of battle they wish. Either like the SOTW, bigger pieces of art, movie editing, drawings, and anything a user can think of that they can compete with other members on this forum.

Right now battlegrounds limitation I believe is that most user on here are just getting started, they don't know where to start, or what they can do with PS or other programs they might have. So these battles can be examples and introductions into these.

But I think it needs a push, the SOTW, AOTW, Official Competitions, and Community Projects have a bit of this by mods leading most of the projects. The Community Projects so far I don't know, it seems a member creates a topic an all make it under that goal? Seems like the SOTW with just a few restictions. So far anyway I'm betting it will change a bit more.

Also another factor that hinders battlegrounds right now is people wanting to join but only old threads spark their interest. No one seems to be hosting any new battles. These threads should either be closed or posted on the first post by the thread creator that the competiton is over for that battle.

Oh okay, so you set up this competition to help battlegrounds? or because SOTW bothers you? You say that you're requesting to be a mod and then step back and say it's helpful but not required?
I don't like your choice of words. Makes you look like you just want to run your own competition because you are unhappy with the current ones.

The new users who don't know where to start etc etc would find tutorials more helpful than entering a competition knowing nothing.

The people who want to revive old themes can do so, that's why there is a "Space Art Battle 2" thread sitting here for example. I don't see how its a hinderance.

I have suggested these same ideas before in the SOTW thread. As most participants that join the SOTW enjoy that style of competition, it was left as is.

The current SOTW is fine but it's just one style.

I have requested to be a mod but I have not stepped back a bit. When you say I "then step back" I think this is misinterpreted from when I said that it's not required. I was mentioning this for most admins don't consider one who asks to be a mod a good candidate for the positions. Normally to immature since they had to ask. Which isn't quite the reason I'm expecting not to get the position on this forum. Though this is a typical example of trying to change things, which happen to most forums.

But no I am not stepping back, it's something that would have helped as a said but can be done with just as a member.

Makes you look like you just want to run your own competition because you are unhappy with the current ones.
I would like to bring forth different styles of battles, while you mentioned that it seems like I just want to make my own competition, not quite. I want other to see quite a few different styles of competitions and then create their own. That's why I thought battlegrounds is a great place to accomplish task.

But your right in an aspect that since I am unhappy about how our SOTW is done, I am trying to create a new type. I think it would be better to do this than trying to convince people in the discussion thread to agree when here I can just see if the members like these competitions themselves. Since these are "Official" they are just battles.

The new users who don't know where to start etc etc would find tutorials more helpful than entering a competition knowing nothing.
Tutorials are to help them learn how to create pieces of art not to show them what to use it for. While battles don't have a ture purpose in actually using the piece for money, it shows them to follow requests and styles. Similar to what was suggested in the SOTW of forcing them to get out of their confort zone. But also have enough competitions styles so beginners can start in their favorite type of style. By seeing others they can improve.

For example when you first joined, Shurai, I really had no concept of depth. But first battle you entered in was one I was hosting and from your entry I finally figured out what I should do. Not from a tutorial just from your work.

This isn't something to teach them how to create, it's how to use a piece of art. And I'm atm trying to teach a few members one on one. And hopefully spread this type of teaching to others though that's a guarantee not to work out as planned :P. but hopefully something good will spread from it.

The people who want to revive old themes can do so, that's why there is a "Space Art Battle 2" thread sitting here for example. I don't see how its a hinderance.
Your last comment about reviving the Space Art Battle took over a month to actually come about after people already revived it. If we could keep this in order we would have done that after the first 3 posts that people were interested in it.
