[3d] Pawnage
Here's another contest entry. I started a little contest on another site and the theme for this round was chess. Now, before anybody says that it's a lame theme, I picked a really ordinary concept so that it would force people to be creative. Anyways, here it is Tell me what you guys think.
Version 1

Version 2 (I thought the white piece made more sense)

Here's a clay render

thats a photograph right?

I'm guessing you're joking. Either way, I'll take it as a compliment, so thanks I used 3ds max and Photoshop to make this by the way.
-
very very nice, but shouldnt there be other pieces in the background?
v2 with the white piece for sure.
-
could you possibly a 1025x 768 wallpaper sized render of it with the white pawn.?
That is, just.. wow. stunning, I really like the concept the most, love chess and love the reflections.
very nice work.

i wasnt. thats seriously perfect, idk how you couldve made it more realistic. i thought it was a photo till i saw the clay one, then i wasnt sure.
that is unbelievably good

Thats awesome I love the reflections it does make it look realistic. Plus I love to play chess so.. Great Job!

Henry - I could have put other pieces in there and I did consider it a few times, but I liked it this way. I intended it to be a little more "up close and personal" by having them be the only pieces on the board. I appreciate the feedback!
Kal - I got the wallpaper here. It's 1024x768 rather than 1025

Xander - Haha thanks, I've never had a render seem photorealistic before, so I'm glad you think so!
Chivalry - It's cool that your recognized the reflections' part in the scene's realism. I used glossy reflections (meaning they're blurry) which I don't often do. They tend to be more realistic that way. Good eye

well done

yeah very creative and i'm a bit anal about stuff so i just want to say the blur towards the top of the chess bored could've been played off better but that's just a bit of photoshop work and doesn't really decrease my thoughts on how amazing this is.. it's impeccable
just noticed the top of the black guy is pretty matte looking you know the crucifix type thing.. perhaps you could try a full matte version of the chess pieces or just edit that.. i'm not sure but i'd like to see it =)
