So you have the basics down now..well maybe not but your getting there. Now you need to work on colors and smoothness. 99% of the time more isn't better, so work on doing less random brushing and make it more to the point. Though probably not the most loved way of doing that around here but the smudge tool is great for doing it.
Also abstract doesn't mean random. You still need a focal point or a point to draw in peoples attention, which you still haven't got the hang off. All of the sigs you've shown have been mono(one color) and have no focal point at all so your eyes are not pulled to one spot more then another.
Great way of doing this is by setting up an atmosphere inside your tags almost. Make it seem like it is its own little area in time, like a picture. Tacky sounding I'm sure but its the best way of thinking about it. If you think of it this way then it needs the same qualities of a picture, it needs shadows, lights, depth, and a range of color even if its just a variation of blue, greens, yellow, etc.. This way your work will always feel alive and give a feeling to those that look at it, even if its the feeling of hate, because they don't understand it.
You might want to look up information about color theory, I know that helps alot of people when it comes to color usage.
I'm sure I could think of alot more tips and might even be able to show you a thing or two in this thread if you want. Though some of it would be common sense and the other half would just be my take on alot of different ways of doing things. Though if Its grunge you want to do then I'm probably the wrong person to explain things to you.
Anyways...though I haven't said anything specific when it comes to brushing or whatever i hope this does help you some. Though if you have any questions just ask me in this thread since I never check my PM's anymore.

Yeah it won't really tell you how to do everything but sure give me some time(maybe a day) and I will make something to help you when it comes to colors and brushing or whatever. It will just be a basic tut on how to do things though, so I'm sure it won't have anything that the tut area doesn't have already.

k ill give u sometime im sure you can make it make more sense if that made sense you seem like you know what your doing but yah anything to spiff up my sigs and text and borders anything lol!

Well hope you can help ill brb gotta get ready for tommorrow we had school off today cause of storms and tornadoes where i live in minnesota brb

Well I'm feeling lazy and really do hate tuts on anything but the basic crap, anyways this is all I really need to post up when it comes to color.
The most useful thing would be this:

Also you can just use the paint bucket tool or gradient tool and use blending effects on them to help with colors and lighting. That and also just brush in colors.
Really just play around with that and you can get some nice colors. Just look up some tuts about everything else. Like I said before anything I know would probably be in the tut area...or maybe just search google for some detailed tuts about it.
