to AA - like what everyone else said.. try using level and curve layers to help bring depth into your sigs

Or use the burn and highlight tool.

yeh agree with octane use the burn and highlight tool, and do your brushing n black and white and than use ctrl+b(colour balance) to add some colour and use other ways to colour as well
