i was in the same predicament that you are in right now. unfortunatley i decided to persue a career in Criminlogical Studies. The thing that put me off is the fact that graphics design is such a competitive market, there are also a surge of young people wanting to go into it... I used to design for money (which was quite hard because its not what you like its what your client likes, which I found difficult at times) but now just do it as a hobby. Just thought I would put my 2 cents in there

there are loads of different ways you can get clients at the start I just handed a sort of business card into their shop and then awaited their reply. I mean i only got a few clients but this enabled me to get my portfolio started. I've only ever sold about 20 or so sites so im not an expert but just have had an insight. The way that most people start to make money with graphics well kids... is through selling their templates on bidding websites. I used to know a few but have forgot them sorry. If you think your good enough right now you probably could get a company to hire you. Depending on your age. There are some sites that people advertise on the forum and say what they want and you can take the job but i dunno how successful they are, could always take a look. I think deviantart.com have something like that. If you wanna know more you can add me to msn: fraserrevie@hotmail.com
    Hope that i've helped you.
