Need Some Help.

iREALLLYYYY like this siggy outcome.
but some of the steps are hard for me to follow.
and i just wanna clear some things up,
so i can learn how to be pro like this, lol.

one thing i just dont understand is the C4D nonsense.
the clipping masks, and gradients, i could grasp, but need a few pointers.

step 1.
whats a c4d ? ive tried googling it and everything.
its used alot in almost all the tuts now,
and i need like a definition, or example of one.

step 3+5.
gradient map. help.

step 6.
another c4d thing.

step 15.
another damn c4d >.<

step 17.
clipping mask, tried this as well.
idont think im doing it right though.
