Nice stuff, it's very simple and sleek.
LOVE the Self Portrait... "Jeff, as seen in a typical setting."
Funny stuff.

the header
Very simplistic. One particular part Im not a big fan of is the black text. It almost seems as if you're trying to hide it, or make it hard to read. If that was the intention, you hit the nail on the head. It may actually be unnecessary from this perspective. Either way, black on dark blue is a bit of a hard-charger for visibility.
layout
Also very simplistic. I would definitely suggest trying to add some more excitement to the content, especially on the front page. Judging from your work, you have alot to offer. But just trying to gain some interest, its very hard to do with what you're presenting. It's almost like you're bored with your work, and you show little interest in getting that work to the viewer. That's the feeling I get from this layout / choice of placement. Don't get me wrong, red, grey and dark blue are an acceptable palette. But what this really says is "slapped together".
It's probably the unfinished portion that makes me feel the way I do. I noticed that you took the time to ensure compliancy on W3C, but it's transitional. Surely you could pull off XHTML Strict :P. Just try to upset the normal in this situation. The grey and dark grey layout seem a bit bland, especially since this is your portfolio, your showcase for your work, your portal to potential clientel. Spice it up!
There's alot of ways to maintain minimalism and still introduce detail. http://www.designmeltdown.com has a fantastic database of "minimalism" type sites that may help you find that peak you're looking for.
