How to make a basic popup?

I am making a site, I want to make a basic popup when you click the framed image, it will pop up with the image and a close popup buton

Either Javascript or HTML, so when it pops up it appears on a black background with an 'X' in the corner.

This is probably the most popular one around. If you know CSS you can customize how it looks a little more, but here is the one supplied.
