I mainly use an applied image of the sig itself for a clipping mask and move it around and see where it blends best.

I'm not sure on the brushes you've used. Download some splatter brushes and place them by the side of the focal.

for the clipping mask. follow the steps:

    1. New layer, get a splatter brush, click in your new layer where you want that splatter to be (the color of the brush does not matter)

    2. Make another new layer, go to Image>Apply Image. Press Ok when the box comes up.

    3. Press Cntr-T and move your Applied image around.

    4. Right Click on the layer with the Applied image and go to Create Clipping Masks.

You will see that the areas where you splatter brushed are now filled with the Applied Image. Once youve does this. Go back to the layer where your splatter brush is and erase parts of the Clipping Mask that you dont want.
