Adjustment layers

Hey guys can you tell me why i can't use the eraser tool on adjustment layers in cs5?

If I remember correctly back to when i had cs2 I could erase the adjustment layers like any other.

If someone could tell me how to switch the settings in order to use eraser on them or an alternative way of taking out the sections I don't want to see that would be great

just click on the mask of the layer then you can ears

i was just creating new layers and applying image but thats such a pain

Your can also just go to rasterize layer, that takes out the mask so you can erase.

Why would you want to use the eraser tool instead of the paintbrush?

guess i can learn to use the paintbrush but im just really used to the CS2 controls and old habbits die hard :P

It's the exact same thing though. If you have an adjustment layer then take a black paintbrush and use that to make the parts you don't want transparent, then if you make a mistake or want those parts back later you can switch to a white paintbrush to make those parts opaque again. Once you pull out the eraser tool you're destroying pixels forever. It's the same concept as using a layer mask instead of erasing the actual layer.

ahhhhh so thats how it works

sorry I've always been a little in the dark on layer masks and such. Seems to me I have been taking the hard way around it. Thanks for clearing it up lol
