Whoever told you that is a fool. Vexel is a rasterized form of vector art. It's pixel based in a bitmap form rather than a series of mathematical algorithms which vector is.

Its a good start, however you need cleaner lines. Add shading and highlights too add detail and depth to the piece. Work on making smoother, cleaner lines.
