JPG = Medium file sizes, full color, some loss of quality, no transparency, no extra data.

PNG = Large file sizes (usually), full color, alpha transparency

GIF = Small File size, Limited color, transparency, animation

jpg's for photos, gif's for animation and transparency, png... high-quality transparency only, really.

if you're doing printing work it's best to keep the file as a PSD, AI, or whatever program specific file type your software uses.

ahh you forgot to mention that jpg is best for photos, as in not for artwork thats more linear in colours!!!! :P

personaly i use png a lot, you can chose the colour depth and with certain types of images it can be smaller than a jpeg, though tends to be on average a tad bigger.

Png is s'posed to be the new open standard to beat all other standards, well will wait for ie7 to come out so that we have a bit better alpha transparency support

    I hate GIF's to death.

I use jpeg and png.... for obvious reasons mentioned.
