    Chapter 4 mates

    Cid In The City

    Chapter Four

It was like time paused for Cid. The results came back. All Cid had to do was open the envelope and see if a bright future was inside but Cid felt constricted. Something wrapped tight, very tight around his intestines. He was nervous, and rightly so; his parents spent some money on him, not to mention everyone expected good of him. He didn't want to let them down and he couldn't let himself down.

The letter was still in his hand and he had yet to open it. Cid thought something was missing but then it came to him. It wasn't something that was missing it was more like someone. "Mum. Dad. Where are you?" he said out loud. No answer. He said so again but only a bit louder. Still no answer. "Where the hell are those people?" Cid wondered but at that moment he heard something. Wait! He heard it again. He pricked his ears and had his hearing to its most sensitive. "Ohhhhhhh. Right there..." It was a woman moaning. Cid felt the colour drain from his face. "Please tell me they're not doing -" He started off but was cut off by rough grunting. It was a man's voice. Cid slowly began to back away, ready to burst through the back door of his house when he heard a big SPLASH!

"Oh Ryan, you clumsy man *giggle*" Cid's mother said girlishly "All the water's gone. We are sooo exposed, ha ha ha!"

"Oh well. I was getting sick and tired of water anyway. I prefer doing it dry!" Ryan exclaimed.

Exactly what he did after is unknown as Cid ran through the back door and straight outside. He had enough "noises" for one day.

    ---------------------------------------------

Cid decided to visit his best friend Law who he had not seen before the day of the exam. Law and Cid knew each other since they were ten years old. They met in a bathroom at a Scottish middle school (Writer's note - Weird coincidence ). As they grew up together, they realized they had the same likings for almost everything but there was always one thing they had a deep and unwavering passion for: Art. While their passion was a tie, they're skills were not. Law just being the natural, talented little artist he is, while Cid... well, Cid tried xD.

Cid crossed the road and walked through a tiny gap leading up north from his farm's direction. He then turned left and walked straight ahead until he saw a little cabin by a lake. It was there his friend lived. Not as fortunate as his friend, Law lived this way for pretty much most of his life. His father, the breadwinner of the family lost his life in a car accident some twelve years before. After that, everything went downhill for Law and his mother. Eventually, Law's mother became an excessive drinker. To feed her addiction and because she had no job, she became a sex worker. Law, while he has not proud of his mother, he is fond of her and helps her out when he can. He does side-jobs and balances his school work in-between. Cid continued to walk up to the wooden cabin. When he got close enough, he saw what seemed a young man with what seemed like a sketch pad in his hand. "Definitely Law," Cid chuckled.

"Law!" Cid shouted. The figure, which was in a chair sitting down jumped. When he looked behind him, he grinned.

"Cid matey. How are ya? How the exam went?" Law asked excitedly, walking up to meet Cid. When they met up they hugged each other and kissed on the cheeks (Writer's note - ...Okaaaaaaay xD)

"The exam went fine," Cid said "Got back my results today."

"What!? Did you passed!?" Law obviously excited for his best friend seemed as though he was going to wet his pants.

"Ok. Hold it there buddy," Cid said in an effort to calm down his friend "I haven't opened it yet. I wanted to do it when, when err, my parents were less busy."

"Oh. I get you," Law getting the drift of what Cid was saying "Well, they should be done now." Law grabbed Cid's hand "Let's go!"

Cid held up Law "Wait. It can wait. After all, I did come to see you. What were you drawing?"

Law looked at Cid. He really wanted to know the results but after all, just like his friend said, he came down to see him. He even requested to see his drawing. He couldn't disappoint.

"I was drawing a picture of the lake. Been trying all week. I think I got it just about right," Law said confidently. They walked up to where Law was sitting. Cid took up the drawing and what he saw made him gasp. The drawing was brilliant. Law had in the detail of the lake's ceaseless surface. It had such flow that it seemed animated. The shading was superb. Cid found it hard to believe that his friend drew it but then Cid double take; this was Law he was talking about.

"This is abso****ing-tastic!" Cid exclaimed (Writer's note - I got this word from the series Dexter. Dexter's sister uses this word almost all the time.)

    "Really?" Law asked.

    "Yea. It's great. You're sweet!"

All of a sudden Law flushed a deep red and bowed his head to the ground, twiddling with his fingers (Writer's note - Sorry to keep interrupting but this is really weird - Hinata?) Cid, now realizing exactly what he said started to flush a bit as well. Cid meant something completely different than what Law interpreted.

    ------------------------------------

A long silence followed and none of them had move, not until a voice shouted out in the distance.

"You two look like lovers, behave yourselves and snap out of it!" A woman said.

"Mum!" Law shouted out and he went out to greet to his mother. Judging from how she looked, Cid deduced that she came back from a night job. When she got with Cid, she greeted him. Cid did the same but when she got close enough Cid saw that she must have had a rough night. The heel on her right stiletto was broken in half; her shirt was all torn and a piece of her bra was ripped and it smelled dingy; she was wearing no undergarment and her short skirt had tear on the left side, and to top it all of, she had red bruising on the side of her face, and it was as Cid concluded "Very, very recent." She and the two boys entered the cabin. Law's mother sat down on a wooden chair and felt her face. She then asked Law to go and get the ointment for her face. When Law scurried off to the medicinal cabinet, she looked at Cid with a strange look that made Cid really uncomfortable.

"Sooo, you did the exam," she started off "How did it go?"

"It went smoothly. Actually, I got back my results today and decided to bring back Law to open the letter with me," Cid replied. He noticed that the woman's jaw was set and her eyes were twitching: She was showing contempt.

"Okay. That's good," She said. She put on a smile but her eyes was contrasting. The eyes were absolutely cold. Cid noticed and raised his eyebrows. He was confused at why Law's mother was behaving so towards him now. She always had a good-natured attitude towards Cid, often joking that her son and Cid are closet lovers.

Law's mother looked Cid. She studied his face and picked up the hints that he showing. Cid demanded to know what was going on and she had no choice but to answer it. She took a deep breath.

"I really envy you Cid, You and your family." She said "But I'm so glad that Law has a friend like you." Obviously not wanting to continue the conversation, she shouted out for Law and asked if he found the ointment yet. Law came out with it and handed it over to his mother. She applied it to her bruise and then told Law to fix her up a spot of breakfast. Law readily obliged: He really adored the woman.

"I'm sorry Cid, but I'll have to borrow L for a while," She said. The hard feelings were no longer there "Hope you don't mind Cid,"

"No no. Not at all. I'll come back later," Cid said and he walked out the cabin.

Cid walked back the same path he walked earlier to reach Law's home. While walking through the tiny gap, Cid began thinking about what Law's mother said about envying his family, and himself. It left Cid to wonder how much people were jealous of him and his achievements when they say they wished well for him. He didn't like the thought of it but it was possible truth and he'll have to face it later. To take his mind off such thoughts, he focused on the results of the exam. He jogged the rest of the distance home.
    -----------------------------------------------

When Cid got home he saw his parents sitting at the table kitchen, staring intently at the letter. They motioned at Cid to hurry up and open the letter. Cid readily obliged. He took a deep breath and opened the envelope. Cid read the purple, emblazoned words on the letter out loud.

    "Dear Student,

This letter contains the results of the entrance examination into the Unlimited Talent of Arts College. The pass mark is eighty per cent overall. Have you gained or pass this mark, you will gain entrance into the facility. Your results are as follows:

    Cid Kevin Jules

    English Language - 91%
    Mathematics - 94%
    English Literature - 74%

In the fourth section, you were allowed to choose one of the following questions: Computer Analysis; Mechanical Engineering; Art. You chose: Computer Analysis.

    Computer Analysis - 100%

    Overall percentage - 89.8%

Congratulations, you have been entered into the college of Unlimited Talent of Arts! Enclosed in a separate letter are validation..."

Cid read no more. He couldn't believe it. He passed! He glanced at his parents; his mother eyes were teary while his father had his chest buffed out and smiled proudly at his son. He was going to college. And without a doubt, Cid thought, that this was one of his happiest moments in his life.

    ------------------------------------

"Okay Cid, tell me what you want." Cid's mother was smiled at him.

"What?" Cid said non-pulsed. Cid was sitting in a couch reading a book his father gave him as a present. His mother was standing over him in an apron. She was baking a pie.

"You did great in your exam, you must want something."

"Well..." Cid was thinking about having a chance to talk with Nina but what could his dear Mum do about that.

"How about a big party?" His mother proposed "We'll have it the night before you leave so that it sticks with ya."

"Ok. That'd be swell mother!" Cid would've been happy about prospect of saying one last goodbye to all the people he grew up with but he really didn't care about most of them except for some, but even they couldn't compare to the want of telling Nina how he felt.

As if she read his mind his mother said nonchantly "If I were you, I'd use this chance to confess to Nina."

Cid jumped up and kissed his mother. Trust her to know what I need was what Cid thought. His mother was happy to see her son so enthusiastic and decided to pop in some extra advice.

"Remember your curse Cid. Do. Not. Eat!" She said in a fake, ominous voice.

"Ha, ha. Very funny Mum but I think I'll be taking your advice this time." Cid replied. This was going to be his last chance of confessing to Nina and he was not going to let anyone or his 'curse' screw it up. It was all or nothing and Cid knew it. "Nina, just wait a bit longer..."

    Hope you enjoy it

    CHEESY STUFF SPOILER!

    Cid In The City

    Chapter Five

"Cid, help me with lifting this table please," Cid's father requested. "Sure thing Dad," He replied and together lifted the table off the ground and placed its correct position. The Jules were getting ready for the party that they were going to host for Cid that night and things were going very smoothly. Cid, not wanting to be left out of the action and because he had nothing else better to do decided to join in with the work. Cid's childhood friends took part in the preparation. Law also helped and was the head decider in the landscape, where as how to put the tables and so on. Cid's mum was in charge of the cooking of the food along with the women while the fathers were in charge of getting the furniture and so on. Cid was very excited and couldn't wait for that night to come. It was his last chance to speak with Nina and couldn't help but get jumpy at certain moments. He nearly cause an accident in which the wooden chair leg nearly crushed Nate's big toe while they were lifting it. Nate was one Cid's closest and longtime friends. It was quite heavy and Cid was relieved nothing happened. Though he was to see Nina that night, he got a surprise earlier that day.

"Heya Cid," A voice called him from behind. Cid was lifting a broad, heavy plank of english willow with Nate. It was to serve as a resting for the plates and drinks.

When Cid heard, he jumped suddenly and the plank of english willow from his end crashed down on his foot. He swore very, very loudly to the point eveyrone working around in the area heard him. His mother heard him and stuck her head out of the kitchen window.

    "Cid! Watch your tongue!"

"Sorry Mum. Plank fell on my foot," Cid replied somewhat shamefully. He then turned around to face the person who greeted him. It was Nina, who was looking quite amused. His heart was beating very hard.

"Didn't know you were nasty Cid," She said with a light giggle "You need to be careful with words. At the very least, you didn't had to say it out so loud,"

"Yea. Sure, I'll remember that." Cid very embarrased now had his head looking down in shame. "It was just that I jumped when I heard you from behind. Real jumpy today." He said lamely.

"Oh. Sorry about that," Nina said apologetically "Why are you jumpy? Excited about tonight?"

Cid didn't want to tell her truth about as to why he was jumpy so he decided to go with the flow. "Yea. Tonight is gonna be a blast. Can't wait," He said sincerely "But why are you here?"

"Your Mum asked me if I wanted to help out with the food so I said that I'll come. Didn't want to be left out on this party." She said with a little wry smile. "Well, I'll leave you men to your task. Later Cid."

"Later Nina," Cid said replied looking at Nina's brisk walk, taking in the sight of her motioned hips and the up-down motion of her butt. "What a magnificent," sight he thought. He then noticed his mother sticking her head of the kitchen window, looking at Cid. When Cid caught her attention, she gave a grin and a wink and disappeared from sight. Cid looked on in wonder.

'Hey mate. Was I totally ignored just now or what?" Nate said suddenly in a joking manner.

"Hahahahha," Cid laughed "I could only suppose so, haha, lets get on with the job Nate,"

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Jules front lawn was lit and the mood was very festive. There many voices that chatted animatedly in the background proved it. A lot of people, mainly Cid's schoolmates and childhood friends came to his sendoff party. Cid was touched by it and couldn't help but shed a tear every now and then. He was really glad to have this party and was even happier at the turnout. Cid marked it as one of his more memorable moments ever. However, he wouldn't end here; he knew his task and it was a must-tell-or-else situation. He went inside of the house and walked to the living room where his mother were speaking with a bunch of women. What they were talking about, Cid never found out but as he entered, they all went quiet, almost immediately. He requested to borrow his mother for a minute.

"Mum, where is -" Cid got cut off.

"She is upstairs, I think she said she wanted to go to the bathroom," She said as though she read Cid's mind. 'Use this as your chance."

"Thanks Mum," Cid said and kissed her on the cheek and rushed upstairs.

When he got there, it was rather quiet. It wasn't as brightly lit as it was outside and the silence added a sense of excitement, as well foreboding. Cid looked along the hallway and saw his bedroom door was slightly open. When he entered his room, he saw a figure sitting on his bed. He turned on his bedroom light and saw that it was Nina. Tears were streaming down her face. Cid was taken back at the figure that sat before him, though he couldn't help but think how cute she looked when she was crying. He sat down on the bed beside Nina.

"Nina, what's wrong?" He asked, hoping to pave way for some conversation. He wanted to tell Nina his feelings about her when she was her normal self. Nina mumbled something inaudible and did a fresh sob. It was heartbreaking for Cid to watch.

Nina," Cid grabbed Nina's hand and held it firmly in both of his hands "What is wrong?"

Nina sobbed some more and started making gasping noises as though she were struggling to speak. When she finally gained some composure, she spoke. "I'm so sad Ciddy,"

Cid was startled. She hadn't called him that since they were little children. He held her hand more tightly than ever. Nina gasped at the sudden pain but didn't complain. It seemed as though she had something to tell as well.

"Why are you sad? " Cid asked. Could it be she didn't want him to leave. His heart was pounding so hard that he wouldn't be surprised if Nina could hear it. Nina took a deep a breath and coughed. Some of the tears and spit went on Cid but he didn't care. It was the words and feeling that would be exchanged that did.

"Cid, I don't want you to leave. I know you're leaving to better yourself and to gain a whole new experience but still, I envy you - and, an-" She was making abrupt stops "And I wish I could only come. I'm sad that you're going away..."

"Nina..." Cid couldn't find the right words to say. He was shocked and he felt as though his heart would explode. He had no idea that Nina felt this way about him. He held her hand more tightly than ever.

"Cid, I, I love you." She jumped foward kissed Cid. No matter how sudden it was, Cid returned the kiss with even more emotion than he thought was ever possible. Nina laid down on the bed and brought Cid's head to her bosom. Cid, on top of her kissed her some more. Their tongues wrapped each other and were tangled in ferocious love. Their feelings were being spoken through their tongues, literally. Cid then pressed his mouth gently against Nina's ear and said "I love you too Nina,". He stood back a bit and saw that Nina eyes were sparkling with water and happiness but at the same time some depth of sorrow could be seen in them.

"Then stay Ciddy. Just stay," She pleaded. Nina wanted Cid to stay so badly that she would give her body, her very essence to him but deep down she knew the answer Cid would give, and she knew she wouldn't like it.

Cid struggled to speak. After the experience, Cid didn't want to leave at all. He felt like telling his parents to **** college. He wanted to tell them that Nina needs him and he would rather stay with her and than be apart but deep down he felt as though he needed to breathe some new air. He needed to stretch his 'wings' and prepare himself for his first flight. He gently, and lightly laid his hand on Nina's left breast. He felt her heart pumping very hard and felt a surge of sadness.

"I can't Nina. I'm sor-" She didn't even wait for him to finish. She rushed out the room, down the stairs where the sight of her fleeing in tears left the women, especially Cid's mum shocked and out of the house. She burst through the crowd of people who were outside partying and through the Jules front gate. Everyone was bewildered at the sight of her and wondered what made her behave like that. Law looked up to the sky and then focused on the upstairs window where Cid was viewing the crowd below. Cid wanted to chase after her but decided better against it. Cid looked up to the ceiling and swore silently, only wondering why such a thing had to happen.

"I'm so sorry Nina," A tear trickled down his face.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cid the next morning woke up wishing that what hapenned last night was just a dream. Unfortunately for him when he looked outside and saw the remains of cups and plates scattered across the lawn, he knew it was real. He went downstairs and saw his mother sitting down at the table drinking coffee. "I guess last night didn't go too well baby," she said. Cid, who didn't feel like speaking at all just gave a simple nod. His mother watched him intently, sipping her coffee every now and then. "Nina's father came earlier this morning but you were still sleeping. He gave me this letter along with a book, saying it was from Nina to you," She gestured at a book on the table with an envelope stuck in between the pages of the book. Cid reached out for it but his mother stopped him "You overslept. You got to get ready to go to the airport in the next hour. Go and take a shower and eat your breakfast and then I'll give you the book." And with that, she took the book with her and went upstairs into the study with it and her coffee.

Cid scrambled upstairs, took off his clothes and rushed into the bath. He berated himself for oversleeping, especially when he had to leave Scotland in the next hour. He came out, dressed and went down to eat his breakfast. While eating, he wondered what Nina wrote to him. After last night Cid though that Nina would never want to speak with him again. He rest the dishes in the sink and went upstairs and into the study room. His mother wasn't there but the book was resting in a chair. He took it up and took the envelope out. He opened it and read the letter. It was somewhat short but Cid didn't mind. If it was Nina, it was worth reading.

    "Dear Ciddy,

Last night was a total disaster. I left in such a way that would have left you feeling guilty and with a heavy weight on your chest. You're going to explore something new and I don't want you to carry such a burden to America. I wrote this letter to apologise and to wish you the best in college. Though I tried to seduce you so that you would stay, my feelings are true. I love you Cid and I understand now how selfish I was. I could only hope you could forgive me with time. Ciddy, please be careful out there and come back to me. I'll wait for you.

    Love,
    Nina
    "

Cid felt the weight come off of his chest. That guilt he had vanished as Nina's words sank in his mind. Finally, Cid felt as though he could leave Scotland with no regrets. He would miss his friends but he looked foward to college and now that his love life was set straight, he was rearing to go.

"I promise you Nina. I'll come back to you,"

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

"Umm, excuse me sir. Sir," A female voice ringed

Cid was in line dazing off into space, going over some memories. When he came back to, he then remembered that he was in the line to verify his flight. Feeling embarressed, he went foward and apologised for the wait. After verifying, he went into the waiting lounge and sat down, waiting for his flight. As he sat there, he said to himself "America, I'm coming!"

THats chapter five guys. Extremely cheesy with the love shit. I was tyring to create a sorrowful, somewhat regretful yet loving atmoshpehere between the two but it might have been overdone lol. Feedback appreciated
