For those who experienced a Hurricane before, well a really strong Hurricane, how bad is it?

It's bad.
Picture your entire house shaking, trees falling, things cracking, horrible thundering, tons and tons and tons of direction shifting rain falls and stupidly strong winds. Winds which can literally lift up a full sized man and toss him quite a few feet from where he was standing.
It's basically hoping and praying that your house doesn't fall apart with your family and constant random scares because you know that at any moment you need to either;
1. Run if your roof fell off
2. Take your entire family (pets too) to safety/another house that is still standing with flying debris in the air
3. Cross your fingers and hope for a fast death, like a boss
and if you have a strong and sturdy house, just ride it out but it'll still be scary shit.
ps the winds make horrible sounding noises and it's really loud, but it's not all that bad. I've been through a few hurricanes, some really bad, some not so bad.

Well I'm scared shitless. Thank god I live in stuffy brink building. Only ever moved for the earthquake which was light

Don't be scared, it isn't a tornado. Your house/surroundings will receive a beating if you get a bad part of the hurricane but you'll be Ok, I'm sure.
unless you live near by a Water Dam...which is like...just evacuate dude.

I've never understood why you would keep building houses out of wood with no real foundation when you live in areas infested with hurricanes... just seems silly to me tbh..

Places where the hurricanes tend to hit are all swamp lands and there for the ground is to soft to build any other kind of foundation other than slab foundations, I'm farther north up the east coast where hurricanes don't really hit that much. Even a house built out of brick being hit by 125 mph winds isn't going to completely hold up. And it's also cost efficient.

I live in a brick apartment building I think Im safe
